Dentistry
As pets don’t usually brush every day, they are at high risk of developing dental problems. Around 70% of cats and 80% of dogs have dental issues by the time they reach the age of 3 years. We recommend getting regular dental checkups done for your pet to identify dental problems. Even if your pets are already suffering from some kind of oral health issues, we can diagnose it and provide medical help so that they get better. Bacteria and the food that gets stuck in your pets' teeth can rot over time and can further damage the tooth and the soft tissues surrounding them. Not only this, but oral problems can also affect the internal organs and cause damage or infections to the kidney, liver, heart and lungs. If not treated timely, it can also be a cause of death.
Common Symptoms to Watch For
If you spot the following issues in your pets, they can benefit from our dentistry services:
Cardiology
Usually, heart problems are associated with older pets. However, this isn’t a sure thing as young pets can also have heart complications, even life-threatening ones. At Huron Church Animal Hospital, we aim to identify such issues at an early stage so that they can be cured before any serious complications arise. If you have enough awareness, you can identify problems in advance. We suggest people look for signs like loss of appetite, weakness and inability to exercise among their pets. These are the usual signs that indicate that something is wrong with your pet's heart.
Common Issues and How We Can Help
Over time, issues with the heart can lead to congestive heart failure which can result in death. Congestive heart failure (CHF) occurs when the heart's ability to pump blood properly is compromised due to cardiac disease. When an animal has CHF, fluid collects in and around the lungs, as well as in the belly on occasion. CHF can be caused by a variety of conditions, including congenital heart disease (animals born with a heart defect), valvular heart disease (abnormalities of the heart valves), arrhythmias (rhythm irregularities), and heartworm illness.
If diagnosed at the right time, a lot of heart issues can be treated. Our physical exams, X-ray, ultrasound, and ECG facilities allow us to identify and diagnose these issues in the early stages so that we can suggest the right medical care on time.
Medical Assessment
We frequently suggest an examination of your pet to provide an accurate diagnosis. We start with a physical inspection of your pet's eyes, ears, and skin, as well as a thorough examination of their cardiovascular, neurological, gastrointestinal, and skeletal systems for any abnormalities. We'll assess the kidneys, liver, pancreas, and endocrine system, including the thyroid and adrenal glands, as needed with blood and urine tests. Depending on your pet's condition, we may suggest additional diagnostic procedures, such as radiography (x-rays), endoscopy (internal scoping), ultrasound, or biopsy.
Radiology (X-ray)
X-rays can reveal many problems in your pets that standard diagnosis might miss. Be it intestines, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tracts or injuries to the bone, our state-of-the-art digital x-ray services can help you identify issues quickly so that timely intervention can help your pets avoid discomfort. Also, our equipment emits less radiation as compared to the traditional ones. We use X-rays alone or pair them up with other diagnostic tools to get the correct reports. As X-rays require the subject to remain still, it becomes difficult with pets. In some cases, we may need to sedate them with short-acting anesthesia.
